“Day 1 of My 30-Day Journey to Improve My Health”

Alright, I’m putting it all out there — I’m not exactly a poster child for healthy living. I love sugary snacks, I’m addicted to sodas, and my idea of physical activity is walking to the fridge during commercial breaks. But I’ve decided it’s time for a change.

So, for the next 30 days, I’m taking y’all along on my journey to become a healthier version of myself. Am I expecting to crush it every single day? Absolutely not. And that’s okay. Progress isn’t about perfection — it’s about showing up, learning, and pushing forward, even when I stumble. I know I’ll have setbacks (because let’s be real, I’m still going to crave cookies), but I’m committing to trying. And sometimes, that’s the hardest part.

Step 1: Get Moving (Even If It’s Awkward at First)

First thing’s first — I need to get my body moving. I don’t need to run a marathon or hit the gym every day, but I’ve got to start somewhere. And that’s where my Weighted Hula Hoop comes in.

If you haven’t heard of it, it’s this fun contraption where you swing a weighted ball around your hips while trying to keep the hoop moving. Sounds easy, right? Nope. It takes a minute (okay, several minutes) to get the hang of it. I look absolutely ridiculous doing it, but honestly, that’s part of the fun.

The plan? I’m starting with three 3-minute sessions a week. Baby steps. Once I get comfortable, I’ll increase the number of sessions before I bump up the duration. Right now, though, I’m just focusing on getting those hips moving again — and let’s be real, shaking it to some 90s and 2000s pop and rock makes it way more fun. Britney, NSYNC, maybe a little Linkin Park? Yes, please.

Why the Hula Hoop?

Okay, I know what you’re thinking. Why a weighted hula hoop?

  1. It’s Low Impact. I’m 41. I don’t need to wreck my knees by trying to relive my high school athlete days. The hula hoop gets my heart rate up without putting too much stress on my joints.
  2. It’s Fun. Let’s be honest — I’m way more likely to stick with something that makes me smile. And for some reason, trying not to drop that hoop while singing along to Backstreet Boys feels like a win.
  3. It Engages My Core. If I’m going to do something, I might as well target my midsection, right? Win-win.

The Goal Isn’t Perfection — It’s Consistency

I’m not expecting overnight results or some miraculous transformation in 30 days. But if I can build some healthier habits and prove to myself that I’m capable of sticking with it, that’s already a huge win. I want to feel stronger, have more energy, and maybe, just maybe, cut back on my soda addiction (baby steps on that one).

And I know it won’t be perfect. Some days, I’ll be tired. Some days, I’ll want to skip. But the point is to keep going — to keep moving, even if it’s just a little. And honestly, that’s what makes this journey worth it.

What About You?

I’m curious, though — what do y’all do to stay healthy? Do you have a favorite workout? Are you experimenting with healthier meals? Maybe you’ve got a go-to meditation practice that helps you stay centered? I’d love to hear what’s working for you because I’m all about finding new ways to keep this journey interesting.

Day 1 is in the books, and I’m ready to see where this goes. Let’s do this! 🎉
